So, I stumbled upon this game, Diamond Kings Baseball, right? Wasn’t really looking for anything special, just something to flick through on my phone. And well, I gave it a shot. Fired it up, and the first thing that hit me was, “Okay, another baseball game, let’s see how this goes.”
Getting Started, Sort Of
The menus were a bit all over the place, if I’m honest. You know, like when you walk into a room crammed with stuff and you don’t know where to look first? That was kinda it. They try to throw everything at you: player cards, training modes, daily missions, special events. A whole lot of buttons. I just wanted to play a simple game of baseball, you know?
Eventually, I figured out how to actually get into a match. The graphics were alright, not gonna lie. Decent enough for a quick game. But then came the controls. Tapping, swiping, holding – it felt like I needed an instruction manual thicker than my arm. For a while there, my batters were striking out more than a guy trying to light a wet match in a hurricane.
The Daily Grind and Those Player Packs
And then there’s the whole player pack thing. Oh boy. You play games, you earn some in-game money, and then you spend it on packs hoping for a superstar. More often than not, you get a bunch of benchwarmers. I remember this one time, I saved up for what felt like ages for a “premium” pack. My big moment! And what did I get?
- Three pitchers who couldn’t find the strike zone if it was painted neon green.
- A shortstop with hands like feet.
- And a catcher who seemed allergic to the ball.
What a letdown, seriously. It felt like the game really wanted you to just open your wallet. And I wasn’t about to do that, no sir.
So, I just kept grinding. Played a few games here and there. Sometimes it was fun, especially when you managed to hit a walk-off homer with some random dude you picked up. Those moments were cool. But then you’d go on a losing streak, and the AI would suddenly turn into superhumans, making impossible plays. Felt rigged sometimes, I tell ya.
So, Am I Still Playing?
Eh, not so much anymore. It’s still on my phone, taking up space. Every now and then, I might open it if I’m really, really bored. But the initial charm, if there was much, wore off pretty quick. It’s like they tried to do too many things, you know? A bit of simulation, a bit of arcade, a bit of card collecting, a bit of gacha. And it all just felt kinda… jumbled. Like a big pot of soup with too many ingredients that don’t quite mix.
It’s not the worst game I’ve ever played, not by a long shot. But it’s not something I’d be telling all my friends to rush out and get either. It just is what it is. Another game that came and, well, mostly went for me. Maybe if they simplified things, focused on just making the core baseball fun without all the extra fluff, it could’ve been something. But as it stands, it’s just another one of those.
