The title “Barreltender” in Final Fantasy XIV is an achievement reward obtained by progressing through the custom deliveries for a specific Non-Player Character (NPC). This NPC is Kurenai, a Kojin of the Blue, located in Tamamizu, The Ruby Sea.
Unlocking Kurenai’s Custom Deliveries
To begin Kurenai’s custom deliveries and work towards the “Barreltender” title, players must first meet several prerequisites:
- Complete the main scenario quest “Stormblood.”
- Complete the sidequest “None More Blue” in The Ruby Sea (X:20.2, Y:20.1), which is initiated by the NPC Kurobana. This quest chain unlocks Tamamizu and provides access to Kurenai.
- Complete the sidequest “The Seaweed Is Always Greener” in Kugane (X:10.1, Y:9.9), initiated by M’naago. This quest unlocks the custom delivery system itself.
- Once these are met, the quest “The Paths We Walk” can be picked up from Kurenai in Tamamizu (The Ruby Sea X:28.3, Y:16.3) to unlock her custom deliveries. Players must be at least level 62 in a Disciple of the Hand or Land class.
Completing Deliveries and Earning the Title
Once Kurenai’s custom deliveries are unlocked, players can deliver collectables to her weekly. These collectables can be crafted by Disciples of the Hand or gathered by Disciples of the Land. Each delivery increases your satisfaction level with Kurenai.
The process involves:
- Checking Kurenai’s requested items for the week (item types rotate).
- Crafting or gathering the items to the required collectability rating. Higher collectability yields more satisfaction and rewards.
- Delivering up to six items per week to Kurenai. Players have a total allowance of 12 custom deliveries per week across all available custom delivery clients.
Upon reaching the maximum satisfaction level with Kurenai (typically represented as five hearts or levels of standing), players will unlock a final associated quest. Completing this quest rewards the achievement “A Soulful Reunion” and the Barreltender title.
Significance and Rewards
Beyond the “Barreltender” title, progressing Kurenai’s custom deliveries offers substantial rewards. These include significant experience points for the class used to make the delivery (crafter or gatherer), Gil, and either Yellow or White Crafters’ Scrips or Gatherers’ Scrips, depending on the player’s level and item delivered. Furthermore, it provides a unique storyline focused on Kurenai, her aspirations, and the Kojin of the Blue, offering additional lore and character development.
