Alright, so this question pops up a lot, Christian Watson or Michael Pittman? It’s one of those that gets bounced around, and I’ve spent a fair bit of time mulling it over, digging through my old notes and just, you know, remembering how things played out.
My Own Tussle with This
See, last season, I was in a typical fantasy bind. You know how it is. My main league, the one I actually pour hours into. I thought I had a solid team, then bam, injuries everywhere. Classic stuff. So, I was on the waiver wire, eyes glazed over, scrolling and scrolling.
And there was Watson. Early on, this was. Before he really took off. I remember clearly thinking, “Rookie, Green Bay, quarterback’s got his favorites, nah, too risky.” So, like a genius, I picked up some other guy who probably ended up getting me like, three points total. Then I watched Watson become a monster for a few weeks and, yeah, I was kicking myself. You live and learn, or you try to.
Then you got Pittman. I actually did have Pittman on one of my squads. And man, oh man. Talk about a ride. Some weeks? Pretty good, got the job done. Other weeks? It was like he wasn’t even on the field. The whole Colts offense, let’s be real, was a dumpster fire. Quarterback carousel from hell. You just couldn’t bank on anything coming out of there consistently.
So, What’s the Play Now?
Fast forward to now, looking at draft boards, or thinking about who I’d rather have if they’re both staring me in the face. Those experiences stick with you.
- Watson: He showed us that crazy ceiling. The kind of player who can win you a week single-handedly. But, there’s the hamstring stuff, right? And a new QB throwing him the ball. That’s a big question mark. Still, that potential… it’s hard to ignore. It’s like that lottery ticket you know probably won’t hit, but what if it does?
- Pittman: You figure he’s got a safer floor. He’s the main target, or should be. New young QB might lean on him. But is that offense going to be good enough to make him truly valuable? Or is he going to be one of those guys who gets you a steady 8-10 points, and you lose by a hair? That’s almost more frustrating than a complete bust sometimes.
My “practice,” if you want to call it that, has been shaped by these moments. Getting burned by being too cautious and missing out on a league-winner like Watson could have been. And then getting ground down by the week-to-week hope and disappointment with a guy like Pittman in a bad spot.
It’s not an easy call, no sir. If I’m backed into a corner, have to pick one for the long haul or a critical spot? I’m starting to lean towards the chaos, towards the higher upside. Watson just feels like he has more of that “league-winning” potential, even if he comes with more risk. Pittman, well, he feels like he might just be more of the same from last year – okay, but not great.
I’ve been adjusting my own rankings, nudging Watson up a notch or two. Pittman’s kind of just… there. It’s not scientific, just gut feeling based on what I’ve seen play out on my own teams. You gotta trust your own experiences, right? Otherwise, you’re just throwing darts in the dark.
