Alright, let me tell you about this whole “ferrari tie” thing I got myself into the other day. It wasn’t about buying a fancy car, unfortunately. Nah, this was all about actually tying a tie, but with a bit of a story, you know?

So, I had this old necktie, a Ferrari branded one, believe it or not. Got it as a gift years ago, one of those things you keep but never really wear. But then, this dinner thing came up, something a bit more formal than my usual, and I thought, “Hey, why not?” Pull out the Ferrari tie, give it an outing. Seemed like a good idea at the time.

I grabbed the tie, stood in front of the mirror, and went for my usual knot. The one I’ve been doing since I was a teenager. And man, it just looked… sad. Limp. Not worthy of the prancing horse logo, if you catch my drift. I thought, “This tie needs something special.” So, I figured I’d learn a new, fancier knot. How hard could it be, right?

Famous last words. I went online, typed in “cool tie knots” or something. And down the rabbit hole I went. Pictures, diagrams, videos… My bathroom counter was covered in my practice ties. I started with one that looked kinda intricate. The instructions were like, “Loop A over B, then under C, through the newly formed D…” My fingers were all thumbs. I swear, I spent a good twenty minutes on the first attempt, and the result looked like a badly wrapped sausage.

I didn’t give up, though. Stubborn, I guess. I picked another knot, this one with a different name, but it looked just as complicated. I was twisting, turning, pulling… At one point, I had the tie wrapped around my hand, then my neck, then somehow stuck on the tap. Don’t ask. My wife walked in, took one look at me and the mess of silk, and just slowly backed out of the room. Can’t blame her.

I must have tried three or four different “super amazing” knots. Each one was a fresh new battle. I was getting frustrated, muttering to myself. “This isn’t rocket science, why is it so difficult!” I even considered just going back to my old boring knot, or maybe, heaven forbid, a clip-on. But then, the Ferrari logo on that tie seemed to be mocking me.

Okay, deep breath. I picked one knot, I think it was called the Eldredge, or something equally regal-sounding. It looked amazing in the picture. I told myself, “This is it. This is the one. This will be my ‘Ferrari tie’ knot.” I watched the tutorial video, like, ten times. Paused it. Rewound it. Watched his fingers. Then I tried. Slowly. Very slowly.

  • First loop… okay.
  • Second tuck… a bit messy, but salvageable.
  • The weird cross-over thing… got it!
  • Tighten carefully…

And then, suddenly, it just… formed. It actually looked like the picture! It was symmetrical, it was complex, it was… pretty darn cool. I couldn’t believe it. I did it again, just to make sure it wasn’t a fluke. And yep, there it was. Sleek, a bit showy, but definitely an upgrade.

So I practiced it a few more times on the actual Ferrari tie until I could almost do it with my eyes closed. Well, not really, but I got quicker. When I finally wore it to that dinner, I felt pretty slick, I gotta admit. It’s funny, all that struggle for a piece of silk around my neck. But hey, I conquered the ‘ferrari tie’ situation. And now I have a new party trick, I guess. Or at least, a story to tell about the time a tie almost defeated me.
