So, Sunday rolled around again, and my neck was doing that thing. You know, that stiff, can’t-quite-turn-your-head-all-the-way thing. Been happening more often lately, probably from hunching over the keyboard all week, or maybe just, you know, life.
The Decision
I’d been putting off going to Dr. Alex, my chiropractor, for a couple of weeks. Kept thinking, “Oh, it’ll sort itself out.” Spoiler: it didn’t. So, this morning, I woke up, tried to look over my shoulder, and yeah, nope. Decision made. Time for a tune-up.
Sundays are usually my only real shot at getting there without totally wrecking my weekday schedule. It’s a bit of a drive, but honestly, when you’re feeling like a rusty hinge, you just do it.
At The Chiro’s Office
Got there, and thankfully, it wasn’t too packed. I always find chiropractor waiting rooms kinda funny. Everyone’s sitting there, subtly trying to stretch or rub whatever part of them is busted. We’re all in the same creaky boat.
Dr. Alex called me in. He’s a pretty straightforward guy. Asked the usual, “What’s bothering you today?” I pointed to my neck, my lower back – the usual suspects. We had a quick chat, he did a few of those little tests, pushing here, asking me to resist there. Standard stuff.
The Main Event: Getting Cracked
Then it was onto the table. This is the part people are always curious or kinda scared about. First, he worked on my lower back. A bit of pressure, a quick thrust, and POP! Then another one. It doesn’t really hurt, not for me anyway. It’s more of a… release. A very loud release, sometimes.
Then he moved up to my neck. This is the one that always gets the biggest cracks for me. He cradled my head, told me to relax (easier said than done when you know what’s coming), and then a swift little turn. CRACK-CRACK! Man, it sounds way worse than it feels. Actually, it feels pretty good right after. Like untangling a knot you didn’t even fully realize was there.
- Lower back adjustment: check.
- Mid-back clicks: check.
- Neck pops (the big ones!): double check.
He did a few other little tweaks here and there. I never really know what all of it does, but I trust the process, I guess. Or maybe I’m just desperate for relief.
Feeling Better, For Now
Got off the table feeling way looser. Like someone oiled my joints. It’s not like I’m suddenly a superhero, but I can turn my head again without wincing, which is a pretty big win in my book.
Dr. Alex gave me the usual advice: drink water, maybe some light stretching. I nodded, paid up, and headed out. The drive home was already more comfortable. My neck wasn’t screaming at me every time I checked a blind spot.
Spent the rest of the Sunday actually feeling pretty decent. Could play with the dog without feeling like I was going to snap in half. It’s funny how much a little bit of pain can drag down your whole mood, and how much relief can lift it.
I know some folks think chiropractic is all smoke and mirrors. And hey, maybe for some it is. But for me, these Sunday sessions? They get me through the week. It’s not a magic cure, I still get stiff, but it definitely helps me manage. So yeah, another Chiropractor Sunday in the books. We’ll see how long this good feeling lasts. Hopefully long enough.
