Alright, so I’ve been meaning to talk about this for a bit. It’s about golf shirts, specifically the kind Cam Smith wears. You see him out there, and he’s got a certain style, doesn’t he? It got me curious, plain and simple.
My own golf wardrobe was getting a bit, shall we say, tired. Same old boring polos I’ve had for ages. So, I figured, why not see what the fuss is all about with his gear? Started by just casually looking around, asking a few of the guys at the club if they knew the brand. Some did, some didn’t. Typical.
Did a bit of searching online, you know, the usual. Turns out he’s with Original Penguin. Now, that name took me back a bit. I remember that brand from years ago, but hadn’t really thought about them for golf stuff. So, I thought, okay, let’s give this a proper look. I wasn’t just going to buy one blind, though. I wanted to actually see what they felt like.
Getting My Hands on One
I managed to find a place that stocked them. Went down there, picked one up. First impression? The material. It felt different. Not that super-shiny, almost plastic-like stuff you get with some modern golf shirts. This felt more, I don’t know, natural, but still like it would perform, if you know what I mean. It had a bit of weight to it, but not in a bad way. Seemed like it would breathe okay.
When I actually got one and tried it on, a few things became clear:
- The fabric really did feel good against the skin. Comfy.
- The fit was pretty decent. Not too baggy, but definitely not one of those super tight “athletic” fits that I can’t pull off anymore. Gave me room to swing, which is kind of important, right?
- The designs are definitely not boring. They’ve got character. That little penguin logo is pretty distinctive too.
I ended up buying one. Figured it was a good test. Wore it out for a round last week. It was a fairly warm day, and I have to say, it held up well. Didn’t feel sticky or gross by the 18th hole, which is a win in my book. And yeah, it looks pretty sharp. Even got a comment or two, which never usually happens with my old gear.
It’s funny, I used to be strictly a solid color guy. Navy, black, maybe a grey if I was feeling adventurous. But these shirts, they’ve got a bit more personality. It’s a change, but a good one, I think. Makes the game a bit more fun, even if my score doesn’t always reflect it!
So, yeah, that’s my little journey with the Cam Smith golf shirts. They’re not the cheapest things out there, let me tell you, but the quality seems to be there. I’ve actually picked up another one since that first one. Just don’t tell my wife I’m buying more golf clothes. She thinks I have too many already. She’s probably right, but hey, what can you do?
