Alright, so I had this idea bubbling in my head for a while. You know how sometimes you just get a craving and then an idea just clicks? That was me with this reese’s pillow thing. I was sitting there, munching on some peanut butter cups, naturally, and looked over at my boring old couch. Needed a bit of something, you know?
Getting Started – The Fabric Hunt
First things first, I had to actually get the materials. Sounds simple, right? Just some fabric. I figured I needed that classic reese’s orange, a good chocolatey brown, and maybe a pop of yellow. Well, let me tell you, finding the right shades was a bit of a pain. I went to like three different stores. Everything was either too neon, or too dull, or looked like something a baby threw up. You know how it is. You have this perfect picture in your head, and then reality just slaps you a bit.
Finally, I found some decent felt. Not the super fancy stuff, just good old craft felt. It had the right kind of matte look I was going for. Grabbed a big piece of orange, a slightly smaller piece of brown for the ‘cup’ part, and a tiny bit of yellow, just in case. Oh, and stuffing. Lots of stuffing. You always underestimate how much stuffing you need for these things.
The Actual Making Of It – Or, The Messy Part
So, I got home, spread everything out on the living room floor. My cat was thrilled, of course. Thought the felt was a new bed. Anyway, I’m not much of a pattern guy. I just sort of eyed it. Decided to make a big orange circle for the main pillow. Then a slightly smaller brown circle to sew on top, like the peanut butter part sitting in the chocolate cup. Genius, I know.
Cutting the felt was okay. My circles weren’t exactly perfect. More like… organic. Yeah, let’s call them organic circles. Then came the sewing. My sewing machine and I have a love-hate relationship. Mostly, it hates me. We wrestled for a bit. Needles were broken. Thread got tangled. The usual drama. I ended up hand-sewing a good chunk of the brown circle onto the orange one. Took forever, but it looked kinda neat, in a rustic, homemade way.
- Cut out one big orange circle.
- Cut out a smaller brown circle.
- Tried to sew brown onto orange with the machine. Failed a bit.
- Finished sewing brown onto orange by hand. Much swearing involved.
Then I sewed the two big orange pieces together, leaving a gap for the stuffing. This part went a little smoother. Maybe the machine felt sorry for me.
Stuffing and Finishing Touches (Sort Of)
Stuffing the pillow. This is always the fun part. And by fun, I mean messy. Fluff everywhere. It’s like a snowstorm, but with polyester. I just kept stuffing it until it felt right. Squishy, but not too firm. You want it to be huggable, right?
I did think about trying to add the ‘Reese’s’ logo with yellow felt. Sketched it out. Looked at my hand-sewing skills. Looked back at the sketch. And then I decided, nah. Too much effort for something that would probably end up looking like a yellow blob. The colors are iconic enough, I reckon. If you know, you know. If not, well, it’s just a weirdly colored pillow, and that’s fine too.
So, I sewed up the gap. Plopped it on the couch. Stood back.
And there it was. My reese’s pillow. It’s not perfect. It’s a bit lumpy in places. The circles are definitely not mathematically correct. But it’s mine. I made it. And honestly, it’s pretty comfy. Makes me smile when I see it. And it definitely makes me want more reese’s. Mission accomplished, I guess.
